Ergonomics and U/X: Experiential Entry #1
It’s important to listen to users as a designer. They will tell you how to improve your platform or product.
U/X details are especially important when relating to ergonomic limitations.
What do I mean by “ergonomic limitations”? I mean, for example, the text size or the color of the background, or the cognitive ergonomics of where a submenu is located.
As a personal example, I dislike the Squarespace App’s lack of a nighttime mode.
Because I like to write at night, and because I know humans’ circadian rhythms are sensitive to light, I prefer a dark background, yet Squarespace’s iOS platform (iOS 14.4.2) does not allow for me to change the background of their app. The background is white as far as I can tell. I don’t like this. This means every moment I am writing on this app at night from my phone, I am frustrated with Squarespace for forcing me to use a backlit screen. Power users have it 10x worse because they “live” in the U/I.
I sent in an app improvement suggestion to Squarespace just to see what will happen. I will post here with any updates over time.
